DPNR’S DLAM HOSTS “LUNCHTIME WITH THE ARTIST” FEATURING DAVID BERG AT FORT FREDERIK MUSEUM

Commissioner Jean-Pierre L. Oriol of the Department of Planning and Natural Resources (DPNR) invites the public to join the Division of Libraries, Archives and Museums (DLAM) for the next installment of its popular artist talk series, LUNCHTIME WITH THE ARTIST.” The upcoming session will take place on Thursday, October 23rd, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at the Fort Frederik Museum.

This week’s featured guest is David Berg, a ninth-generation Crucian photographer and archivist whose work is showcased in DLAM’s annual Emancipation art exhibition, “Tides of Freedom: Histories of Resistance from the USVI to the USA.” Berg’s photography serves as a powerful tool for cultural preservation, capturing the essence of Caribbean life and history. His dual role as artist and archivist reflects a deep commitment to reclaiming and honoring Virgin Islands heritage from a distinctly local perspective.

The “Lunchtime with the Artist” series offers a unique opportunity to engage directly with artists whose work explores themes of freedom, resistance, and identity. Held every Thursday during the exhibition’s run, these informal lunchtime talks encourage attendees to bring their lunch and participate in meaningful conversations about art, culture, and history.

Admission is $5, with free entry for students under 18, who are especially encouraged to attend and contribute to the dialogue.
