DPNR HOSTS “HEALTH AND WELLNESS THROUGH MOVEMENT AND SOUND” STEAM WORKSHOP FOR YOUTH

Commissioner Jean-Pierre L. Oriol of the Department of Planning and Natural Resources announces that the Division of Libraries, Archives, and Museums will host “Health and Wellness Through Movement and Sound,” an interactive STEAM workshop led by Dr. Chipo J. Baker Afamefuna on Friday, August 7, 2026, at the Florence Williams Public Library in Christiansted.

Designed for children and teens ages 5 to 16, the workshop will be offered in two sessions:

  • Session I: 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. for ages 5-9
  • Session II: 12:00 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. for ages 10-16

Through immersive art experiences rooted in traditional African movement and music, participants will explore themes of self-reflection, confidence, and self-worth in a positive and engaging environment.

Dr. Chipo J. Baker Afamefuna is a biotechnologist, CEO of Assurance Business Management Inc., cultural dance educator, choreographer, and influencer. She earned her doctorate in Biomedical Sciences from Barry University and is passionate about combining science, culture, and creative expression to inspire young people.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to bring interested children to participate in this unique educational experience. Space is limited to 20 participants per session, and attendance will be accommodated on a first-come, first-served basis. Parents or guardians of children ages 5-9 must remain with their child throughout the workshop.
