Home » Division of Permits » What We Do
The Division of Permits reviews and issues various types of permits: building, plumbing, electrical, demolition, flood, renewable energy, wireless facilities/wireless support, mechanical and occupancy for the construction of new or existing residential, commercial or any other type of structure that will be occupied or used by an individual, family or group. The division inspects all construction activity throughout the Territory to ensure minimum local and national building code compliance. The codes enforced are Title 29 of the Virgin Islands Code, the International Building Code, the International Residential Code, International Mechanical Code, International Energy Conservation Code, the National Electrical Code and the Uniform Plumbing Code.
The division also conducts public outreach programs and activities to educate building and construction professionals and the community at large about the building codes.
The Mission of the Division of Permits is to be the leader in the construction industry, while being a trusted resource for the community in expedient and accurate permitting; fairly and practically applying the V.I. Building Codes and International Building Codes to insure public health and safety in the built environment.
A strong foundation is vital to the construction of any home; the same is true for our community. The Division of Permits will ensure that we develop a strong foundation for the future of our Virgin Islands community as we move toward energy efficiency and sustainable development with a sense of honor, integrity and community.
