Commissioner Jean-Pierre L. Oriol of the Department of Planning and Natural Resources (DPNR), announces that the Division of Comprehensive and Coastal Zone Planning (CCZP) has released the SECTION 229 DEVELOPMENT STANDARDS CALCULATOR, a new user-friendly tool designed to assist property owners, developers, architects, engineers, surveyors, and permit reviewers in evaluating compliance with Virgin Islands zoning requirements.
The calculator automates key zoning calculations required under Virgin Islands Code §229, including parking and loading requirements, residential density, minimum lot size, building coverage, floor area ratio (FAR), open space requirements, setbacks, height limitations, group dwelling standards, and Planned Area Development (PAD) regulations.
“The Section 229 Development Standards Calculator is another step toward making the development review process more transparent, consistent, and accessible,” said Commissioner Oriol. “By giving applicants the ability to better understand zoning requirements before submitting an application, we can help reduce errors, improve the quality of submissions, and create a more efficient process for applicants and DPNR reviewers.”
The Section 229 Development Standards Calculator is now available for public use and can be accessed through DPNR’s website at Development-Standards-Calculator-Version or can be requested by emailing leia.laplace@dpnr.vi.gov.
