What Does Your Park Look Like?

On Tuesday, April 22nd, members of the TPPA team met with students on St. John to ask, “What does your park look like?”

At the Friends of VINP Earth Day Fair, our team took the opportunity to ask students attending the event to imagine they are creating a new park in the Virgin Islands and answer two questions: “What does your park look like?” and “What will you do in your park?”. With crayons and a big roll of paper, we asked them to provide input by drawing their answers.

Some students gave important infrastructure suggestions such as park ranger housing, waste and recycling receptacles, and trails; some drew plants, including food producing plants; but overwhelmingly students said they wanted to make sure there were animals in their parks!

The most popular animals drawn were fish, closely followed by turtles (both on the land and in the sea)!

There was a variety of activities that students envisioned doing in their park. Many said they would pick up trash to keep it clean. Fishing, playing, and cycling were also popular. One student even drew pictures of some of the fish he had caught.

We loved hearing and seeing what students on St. John would put in their parks.

What do you want to see and do in your park?
