Commissioner Jean-Pierre L. Oriol of the Department of Planning and Natural Resources (DPNR) announces that the Division of Libraries, Archives and Museums (DLAM) will host a free “Movie Day at the Library” on Saturday, September 19, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Florence Williams Public Library in Christiansted.
Families and community members are invited to enjoy an afternoon of entertainment featuring the family-friendly film Matilda, based on the beloved children’s book by Roald Dahl. The movie tells the story of a gifted young girl with an extraordinary intellect and telekinetic abilities who uses her talents to overcome challenges at home and school while helping those she cares about.
The book is available in both digital and audio formats through the U.S. Virgin Islands Digital Library on Hoopla Digital for patrons with a valid USVI Public Library System library card.
“We are delighted to invite families from across our community to join us for this special free family movie event,” said Amypatrice DeSorbo, Director of DLAM. “Our public libraries are more than places to access books and information. They are welcoming community spaces where families can gather, learn, connect, and create lasting memories together.”
Director DeSorbo also expressed appreciation to local businesses that have partnered with DLAM to support the event. “We extend our sincere gratitude to GMAX and Cost-U-Less for their generous donations of popcorn and refreshments for the children attending Movie Day at the Library,” she said.
