DPNR TO HOST GREAT POND SOCIAL EVENT AND RESTORATION DESIGNS REVIEW

Commissioner Jean-Pierre L. Oriol of the Department of Planning and Natural Resources invites the St Croix public to attend the Great Pond Social Event and Restoration Designs Review on Friday, April 12th at the St Croix East End Marine Park office at the Old Arawak Camp on south shore, St Croix. The event will be held from 4:30-7:00pm.

“As the Department continues to invest in discussing and designing restoration possibilities for Great Pond lagoon to return to a functioning fishery habitat, we are excited to take some time to remember and remark on the greatness of the coastal site and its significance to the island of St Croix over time. We invite the community to attend, enjoy, and learn about local history and future possibilities at the upcoming social event,” commented Commissioner Oriol.

The event is hosted by the division of Coastal Zone Management and Tysam Tech, LLC and will offer oral histories, a video documentary, and a review of restoration designs from earlier community charrette events regarding projects with a goal to restore Great Pond lagoon.

A recording of the recent kickoff meeting is available to view for project background on DPNR’s Facebook page. Project and design information will soon be available to the public for additional review and comment on DPNR’s website.
