Commissioner Jean-Pierre L. Oriol of the Department of Planning and Natural Resources (DPNR) invites the public to join the Division of Libraries, Archives and Museums (DLAM) for the fifth installment of its popular artist talk series, Lunchtime with the Artist. This event will take place on Thursday, October 16th, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at the Fort Frederik Museum.
The series highlights artists featured in DLAM’s annual Emancipation art exhibition, Tides of Freedom: Histories of Resistance from the USVI to the USA. This session will spotlight Crucian artist and chef Ralph Motta, whose intricate large-scale woodcuts explore themes of cultural resistance and self-determination rooted in Virgin Islands heritage.
Lunchtime with the Artist continues every Thursday throughout October from 1:00 to 2:00 PM. Attendees are encouraged to bring their lunch and enjoy an intimate conversation with local artists about their creative journeys, inspirations, and the role of art in shaping narratives of freedom and identity.
Admission is $5, with free entry for students under 18, who are especially encouraged to attend and participate in the dialogue.
